South Central Career Center Enrollment Begins
Open enrollment for South Central Career Center (SCCC) programs is now open. Students can choose from Auto Collision Repair, Auto Mechanics, Carpentry, Commercial and Advertising Art, Culinary Arts, Practical Nursing, Surgical Technology or Welding.
“For over 40 years, we have been providing high-quality programming that allows students to improve workforce skills,” according to SCCC Director Jim Laughary, “thanks to recent investments in equipment like our new robotic welder, we believe our programs are more rigorous and relevant than ever.”
With advances in technology occurring constantly, Laughary says students are taught to be continual learners and encouraged to continue their technical training even after completing an SCCC program. “Our articulation agreements with Missouri State University-West Plains means that students can receive college credit after completing many of our programs,” Laughary said.
South Central Career Center completed a major facility project last summer that allowed most programs to move to one campus. “Our greatest strength stems from teachers who have real-word experience and their relationships with industry,” explained Assistant SCCC Director Josh Cotter.
The Practical Nursing and Surgical Technology programs run from January to December 2016 while the other programs are designed to be completed from August 2015 to May 2016.
South Central Career Center is hosted by West Plains Schools and has served south central Missouri since 1970 with adult and secondary career and technical education programs and other numerous high school courses. With a mission to develop a highly-qualified workforce, SCCC works with eleven area high schools, participates in the federal financial aid program, and has close partnerships with regional industry.
