FCS Financial Awards West Plains FFA Development Grant
FCS Financial recognized 49 4-H clubs and FFA chapters with $250-$500 grants for submitting outstanding Shaping Rural Missouri grant applications. Grants were awarded to organizations with plans to complete a community improvement project during the summer. The West Plains FFA Chapter was selected by a panel of judges to receive a Shaping Rural Missouri grant in support of implementing the Container Garden project for the Bridges program and raised garden bed at Boys & Girls Club.
The funds helped the West Plains FFA chapter provide students with container gardens to help provide food over the summer. The project also helps students learn the life skills of growing their own food. FFA students also built two raised beds for the Boys and Girls Club. The chapters goal was to help provide fresh produce for students in the West Plains School District over the summer. The chapter also wanted to educate students and their families on the benefits of growing their own food. The raised garden at the Boys and Girls club was planted as part of the “Postive Sprouts Program” to teach the benefits of gardening and how those vegetables could be used in a healthy diet.
This is the third year FCS Financial has funded the Shaping Rural Missouri grants for 4-H clubs and FFA chapters. “Community development in rural Missouri is very important to FCS Financial. Our member-owners and staff live in rural communities across Missouri,” said Scott Gardner, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, FCS Financial. “These grants not only strengthen our rural communities but allow our youth to work as a team to accomplish a worthy goal.”
