The West Plains High School Concert Choir traveled to Nashville, Tennessee April 3rd - 6th for the Heritage Music Festival and came back with outstanding results. This year marks the 7th consecutive year the concert choir traveled to the festival and received top honors.
The West Plains High School Future Farmers of America students and their supporters began a “Raising the Barn” fundraising campaign last summer to build a new agriculture science facility. A groundbreaking ceremony for the agriculture science facility was held on Friday, April 4th. Construction is set to be completed in December of 2014. Currently, a total of $160,000 has been pledged by donors and the district will contribute $300,00 to the project. The fundraising campaign will continue to raise funds for the project.
The West Plains School District will host summer school for all students in grades kindergarten through 6th grade beginning June 2nd to June 26th. The program will be held at the West Plains Elementary School, Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m and is offered for open enrollment for all students in the area.
Two educators in the West Plains School District have been recognized by the Missouri Staff Development Council (MSDC) as Outstanding Teachers. Justin Bennett, a West Plains Middle School Communication Arts teacher, and Natalie Brazeal, a West Plains High School science teacher, were presented the awards at the Show Me Professional Development Conference on March 16th, 2014.
The West Plains High School took home the 1st place honor in Division I at the 29th annual Interscholastic Contest hosted by Missouri State University-West Plains on Friday, April 4.
