Art around Town will be on display on the Mezzanine at the West Plains Civic Center starting April 2nd through the 13th. It will feature two and three-dimensional artwork created by kindergarten through eighth grade students in the area. Ten of our students will have work on display, please come out and help support them and the local arts.
Colorguard Try-outs for 8th grade through 11th grade students has been moved to the week of April 28-May 1 (Monday through Thursday) after school in the Band room, from 3:30-5pm each day. If you pass the try-outs, you must be available attend a week of Colorguard Camp at WPHS during the week of June 23-27 and also attend full marching band camp the week of July 14-18. These camps are free.
The 7th/8th grade track team has a meet here today beginning at 4 p.m.
MS Cheerleading tryout forms are due this Friday! Cheer tryouts will be the 14th-17th.
Any 6th or 7th grade Jr. Beta student that is interested in running for an officer position for the 2014/2015 school year will need to attend a meeting that will take place on April 10th at 7:45 a.m. to 8:10 a.m. in Mr. Bennett's classroom. Attendance is required if you are interested in running for office.
West Plains Middle School students participated in a "Planting the Promise" campaign during Red Ribbon Week last fall, which was made possible by both the WPMS Counseling Department and Student Council.
The West Plains School District is offering FREE summer enrichment academies for grades 5-12 the last two weeks of May 2014. The West Plains School District will host summer school for all students in grades kindergarten through 6th grade beginning June 2nd to June 26th. The program will be held at the West Plains Elementary School, Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m and is offered for open enrollment for all students in the area.
Two educators in the West Plains School District have been recognized by the Missouri Staff Development Council (MSDC) as Outstanding Teachers. Justin Bennett, a West Plains Middle School Communication Arts teacher, and Natalie Brazeal, a West Plains High School science teacher, were presented the awards at the Show Me Professional Development Conference on March 16th, 2014.
The West Plains Middle School band solo & ensemble contest was held on Thursday, April 10th. The students were judged either solo or in a small group. The students received outstanding results. Several of the students even played high school level music.
Each year the West Plains Middle School Junior Beta Club selects a service project to complete. This year the club chose to raise money for the City of West Plains Animal Control.
The West Plains Middle School Mathematics Professional Learning Team (PLC) was recognized by the Missouri Staff Development Council (MSDC) as an Outstanding Professional Learning Team.
